2017, Mitangani Secondary School had 164 Pupils, who each had to bring every day a 5 liter water filled Jerry Can to school. Pupils walked 10 to 15 kms daily to collect water, that too in the wee hours of early morning, or late afternoon, whilst missing classes. With decreasing rainfall in the area, and no support systems from government bodies, the school was in dire need of water.
That’s where Sewa Kenya came in.
After surveying the area, Sewa Kenya planned to built a Rain Water Collection Pan,
of 4 Milllion Liters capacity.
The condition was that though Pan will be owned by the School,
the villagers around the area would also benefit & get water from the Pan.
The Pan took 3 weeks to complete, the rain came, and so came the miracles, with the Snowball effect of Good Times. The school management with support from Sewa Kenya, now with basic water problem solved, started working on all the other aspects. Cattle Ranching began and the school made a profit of 50,000/= With sewing machine workshop installed by Sewa Kenya, the school not only made its own uniform, but supplied to other schools and made a profit of 120,000/=
The school started teaching Farming and won awards at Young Farmers competition. For the first time in the school’s history, 2 students went to University in 2019. This year 11 students have joined University.
The School’s performance in academics has steadily improved with better mean grades. Because of water, Students have more time to practice & compete in sports, with school now represented at National level Sports Competition.
From 164 Students in 2017, today the school has 1077, with 536 New Form Ones. This miraculous story, began with a humble Rain Water Collection Pan. It is true - Water is Life !!!
(The Ministry of Education has awarded Sewa Kenya a certificate on 11 May 2019, & an appreciation letter on 30 Jan 2020 for all its efforts)
The Journey continues ... With a mammoth intact of 536 Form Ones, the School urgently needs the support and care of generous people like You who are inspired to share with what You have with those who live in impoverishment.
Come forward & lets join Hands to Nurture the Needy and Donate Graciously to this Appeal.
